La formule

Yield (m³) = total batch mass (kg) ÷ fresh unit density (kg/m³); Relative yield = yield ÷ design volume

Exemple résolu : A 4,800 kg batch at 2,400 kg/m³ measured density yields 2.00 m³. Ordered 2 m³? Relative yield = 1.00 — exactly on spec.

Yield is the quality-control side of concrete volume: the plant batches by mass, but you pour by volume. If the measured fresh density runs higher than the design density, the same mass fills less volume — the load under-yields and your pour comes up short.

To measure density in the field, weigh a container of known volume filled with fresh, consolidated concrete (the standard unit-weight bucket test, ASTM C138). Enter total batch mass from the delivery ticket.

Relative yield between 0.98 and 1.02 is normal. Persistent under-yield across loads is worth a conversation with the supplier — you're paying for volume you're not receiving.

What is concrete yield?

The actual volume a batch produces: total mass of all ingredients divided by the fresh unit density. Expressed per ACI 138 / ASTM C138.

What is relative yield?

Actual yield ÷ design volume. 1.00 is perfect; below 0.98 the load is under-yielding (short); above 1.02 it's over-yielding (usually excess air or water).

Why did my pour come up short?

Common causes: under-yield at the plant, slab thickness running over (the usual culprit), uneven subgrade, or waste. Check thickness first, then run this yield check.

How do I measure fresh density?
