Concrete Carbon Calculator
This concrete carbon calculator estimates the embodied greenhouse-gas footprint of a pour — the concrete gwp calculator number now required on many projects. Pick a mix; factors are typical published cradle-to-gate values in kgCO₂e per cubic meter.
Embodied carbon = volume (m³) × GWP factor. Typical: M25 ≈ 290 kgCO₂e/m³; 50% GGBS mix ≈ 180 Ejemplo resuelto: A 10 m³ M25 pour: 10 × 290 = 2,900 kgCO₂e (2.9 tCO₂e). The same pour at 50% GGBS: 1.8 tCO₂e — a 38% cut.
Concrete's footprint is cement's footprint: clinker production emits roughly 0.8–0.9 kg CO₂ per kg, and cement is 10–15% of the mix — which is why a concrete ghg calculator keys on grade (more strength = more cement) and on supplementary cementitious materials.
The biggest lever is substitution: fly ash (up to ~30%) and GGBS slag (up to ~70%) replace clinker directly. The dropdown's SCM mixes show the effect — 30–50% GWP reductions at equal strength, usually at no cost premium.
For formal reporting, request the supplier's EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) — plant-specific GWP values supersede these typical factors. Use this tool for early design comparisons and order-of-magnitude budgeting.
Preguntas frecuentes
Preguntas comunes sobre la concrete carbon calculator.
How much CO₂ does a cubic meter of concrete produce?
Typically 250–370 kgCO₂e cradle-to-gate for ordinary M20–M35 mixes; SCM-rich mixes run 150–240 kgCO₂e/m³.
What is GWP in concrete?
Global Warming Potential — total greenhouse gases (as CO₂-equivalent) emitted producing the concrete, reported in EPDs per cubic meter.
How do I cut my pour's carbon?
Specify fly ash or GGBS replacement, use the lowest grade the design allows, optimize member sizes, and ask suppliers for their low-carbon mix EPDs.
Are these factors exact?
They're typical published values for early estimates. Plant-specific EPDs vary ±30% with clinker source and grid energy — use EPDs for compliance reporting.
