Editorial & Corrections Policy
Our standards for mathematical accuracy, formula sourcing, and transparency.
Last updated: November 2026 (Draft, needs legal review)
At Concrete Calculator, we recognize that concrete calculations have real-world material, financial, and structural consequences. Ordering too little concrete leads to costly cold joints and delays mid-pour; misjudging structural slab loads or reinforcement spacing risks safety. Our editorial and calculation policy exists to ensure that every tool and guide on this site meets rigorous standards of mathematical accuracy, source transparency, and user safety.
1. Formula Sourcing & Engineering Standards
We do not invent calculation shortcuts or rely on undocumented rules of thumb. Every calculator on our platform is built upon published civil engineering formulas and material standards:
- Structural Slabs & Loading: Westergaard elastic interior-load equations and Portland Cement Association (PCA) slab-on-grade thickness design charts.
- Maturity & Compressive Strength: American Concrete Institute (ACI 209R) hyperbolic strength-gain curves and ACI 318 design specifications.
- Joint Spacing & Crack Control: ACI 302.1R (Guide for Concrete Floor and Slab Construction) recommendations for contraction joint spacing (24–36× thickness).
- Hot & Cold Weather Placement: ACI 305R (Uno evaporation equation) and ACI 306R (temperature thresholds and early freeze prevention).
- Batching Ratios & Material Densities: ASTM C138 unit weight standards (2,400 kg/m³ / 150 lb/ft³ for normal-weight concrete) and standard 1.54 dry-to-wet volume shrinkage factors.
2. Algorithmic Transparency & Deterministic Code
All calculators on www.concretecalculator.xyz run deterministic TypeScript code executed directly in your web browser. We do not use generative AI to guess calculation outputs or estimate yields. Our calculation core undergoes automated regression testing to verify formula outputs against hand-calculated engineering benchmarks before any code is deployed to production.
3. Educational Estimates vs. Professional Engineering
The tools and articles published on this site provide preliminary planning estimates. They are designed to assist contractors, builders, and DIY property owners in estimating material volumes, bag counts, and approximate weights.
No Substitute for Licensed Engineering: Calculation results do not constitute sealed engineering drawings or certified architectural plans. Foundation footings, load-bearing columns, retaining walls over 4 feet, and suspended slabs must always be designed and approved by a locally licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) in accordance with the International Building Code (IBC) and local municipal requirements.
4. Corrections & Discrepancy Reporting Policy
We are committed to prompt, public corrections whenever an error, outdated price range, or formula inaccuracy is identified.
How to report an error
If you identify a calculation discrepancy, a broken reference link, or an outdated technical standard:
- Send an email to hello@concretecalculator.xyz or submit a message via our Contact Page.
- Include the specific page URL, the input values tested, the expected result according to your regional standard or manufacturer data sheet, and any relevant citations (e.g. ASTM or ACI section).
Our review process
Our technical editorial team reviews all reported calculation issues within 48 hours. If an error is confirmed, we immediately correct the code or guide, deploy the fix, and document the update in our release notes.
5. Commercial Independence & Advertising Disclosure
Concrete Calculator is an independent digital resource. We do not accept payment to favor specific concrete brands, batch plants, or product formulations. If commercial affiliate links or equipment recommendations are introduced in the future, they will be explicitly identified with clear disclosures prior to any user action.
